Team Performance Assessment
The team performance assessment is used to review technical and interpersonal competencies of the team as a whole, as well as general characteristics such as team morale and cohesiveness. It is used by the project manager to identify areas to improve the team’s ability to achieve agreed-upon project objectives. The contents of the team performance assessment can include:
- Technical performance
- Interpersonal competency
- Conflict management
- Decision making
- Team characteristics
The team performance assessment is an output of process 9.4 Develop Team in the PMBOK® Guide – Sixth Edition.
Consider the following tips to help tailor the team performance assessment to meet your needs:
- For a small project you can just do a summary of technical performance and interpersonal compe- tency rather than decomposing those categories into subcategories.
- If part of your role as a project manager is to evaluate individual team member performance you can modify the form to focus on individuals rather than the team.
- Some team assessments include team strengths and weaknesses.
The team performance assessment should be aligned and consistent with the following documents:
- Resource management plan

|Collaboration||Rate the team’s ability to collaborate effectively. Provide comments that illustrate instances of collaboration that justify the rating.|
|Conflict management||Rate the team’s ability to manage conflict effectively. Provide comments that illustrate instances of conflict man- agement that justify the rating.|
|Decision making||Rate the team’s ability to make decisions effectively. Provide comments that illustrate instances of decision making that justify the rating.|

|Areas for development||Area||List technical or interpersonal areas for development.|
|Approach||Describe the development approach, such as training, mentoring, or coaching.|
